The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 8 had a meeting with LGU-Ormoc City concerning the rehabilitation of Panilahan River on July 8, 2022 at the City Mayor’s Office in Ormoc City.
In the said meeting, Engr. Magarito Jerry S. Barreto, Chief, Mine Management Division of MGB-08 presented the Proposed Interim Rehabilitation Plan of Panilahan River. Engr. Barreto explained that considering the boundary of Ormoc City and Albuera, Leyte is at Panilahan River particularly at certain upstream segment where the issued ISAG permits of Ormoc City, Province of Leyte and MGB-08 are located, the rehabilitation plan must cover both sides the said river segment.
Hon. Lucy Torres-Gomez asked MGB-08 to come up with a rehabilitation plan for Panilahan River that will be used by LGU-Ormoc City as basis for action for the preservation of the said river by August 8, 2022. Panilahan River will also be closed to mining pending implementation of the rehabilitation plan.
Among those present in the meeting were Congressman Richard I. Gomez, SP Member Gregorio Yrastorza, III, Mr. Vincent Emnas, City Administrator, Atty. Joy Romero, City Legal Office, Forrmer Vice Mayor Leo Carmelo Locsin, Jr., Baldomero Nunez from DENR-CENRO, Rosilyn Sanchez, OIC-ENRO, Jonalyn Cuevas, Head—MLM Section, ENRO and DPWH-08 representatives.
