In keeping with its Information Education and Communication (IEC) campaign efforts, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. VIII personally handcarried and distributed Geohazard Advisories and #MineResponsibility IEC materials to various local government units in the region.
Giving importance on the need to disseminate such advisories down to the barangay level, MGB-08 through its Geosciences Division and Information and Communication Section, during such distribution, discussed with Municipal Mayors, Municipal/City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (M/CDRRMOs), Municipal/City Planning Development Officers (M/CPDOs), the flood and landslide susceptibility ratings of their concerned municipalities and how it must be given due consideration in the crafting of its Comprehensive Land Use Plans (CLUPs) and other development plans.
The issuance of geohazard advisories last year was prompted by the NDRRMC Memorandum No. 98, Series of 2021 on the La Niña alert issued by PAGASA dated September 15, 2021. Meanwhile, with the DOST-PAGASA Press Statement dated May 18, 2022 on the onset of the rainy season, MGB-08 initiated this year, the reissuance of geohazard advisories to all municipalities to serve as guide for them to come up with a concerted and proactive approach in addressing concerns pertaining to the onset of the rainy season and the on-going La Niña.
The LGUs for their part expressed appreciation on such effort extended by the MGB-08 to help them undertake preparedness measures and actions for any eventualities especially concerning flood and landslides.
