The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. VIII (MGB RO8) is in custody of the apprehended three (3) unit 10-wheeler aluminum wing van trucks loaded with undocumented ore/pyrite on May 2, 2022 at Brgy. Pequit, Paranas, Samar.

In a joint operation conducted by personnel of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Samar District Office, DENR-PENRO Samar and CENRO Catbalogan, the team apprehended during checkpoint, three wing van trucks bearing plate numbers RJP 448, CBP 8018 and ABK 4375, with a total load of 56,000 kilos allegedly illegally sourced/extracted ore/pyrite from Bagacay Mines, Brgy. Bagacay, Hinabangan, Samar to be transported out of the area.

Failure of the truck drivers to present legal documents for the supposed transport such as Ore Transport Permit (OTP) from MGB-08 led to the impounding of the trucks at the Motorpool of the Provincial Engineering Office, Brgy. Payao, Catbalogan City. It was then turned-over to MGB-08 for further investigation on the identification of the owners as well as final determination of the mineral products seized.

RD Carlos Tayag expressed appreciation on the joint efforts of concerned agencies leading to the apprehension of such allegedly illegal transport of minerals.

“We will seriously look into this, we will investigate, since this has a big impact in our economic development as well as in our efforts in promoting responsible mining,” RD Tayag said.

The apprehended trucks remain in custody of MGB-08 pending administrative proceedings.
