The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 08 conducted a deputation seminar to the existing Deputized Mining Enforcement Officers of Ormoc City as well as to new deputized mining enforcement officers of the City on February 22-23, 2022, at Ormoc City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
The attendees were oriented about some aspects of Mining Laws, the prohibited acts and the procedures during apprehension/seizure of perpetrators of illegal mining.
In her message, Hon. Lalaine Marcos, Chairperson on Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Energy Conservation, expressed the City Government’s gratitude to the MGB RO for its efforts in helping them strongly implement the mining laws within its jurisdiction as set forth in its City Mining Ordinance.
Meanwhile, MGB-08, through Atty. Rogelio Napoles, Jr., stated that they are likewise grateful that the City Government is intensifying its efforts to police mining operations within its jurisdiction by deputizing mining enforcement officers since the Regional Office has inadequate personnel to monitor all mining operations within the Eastern Visayas region.
Thus, as deputized Mining Enforcement Officers of MGB RO No. 08, they are authorized to conduct apprehension/seizure of perpetrators of illegal mining and the illegal transport of minerals and mineral products within Ormoc City.
The deputation seminar was conducted by Atty. Rogelio Napoles Jr. and Engr. Francis Combinido of MGB-08. It also included an actual conduct of checkpoint of conveyances transporting minerals within the jurisdiction of Ormoc City.
