The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Regional Office No. VIII in commemoration of the agency’s 123rd Founding Anniversary held an Information , Education, Campaign (IEC) on Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation for MGB VIII employees on November 25-26, 2021 at the Mahagnao Volcano Natural Park , Barangay Mahagnao, Burauen, Leyte.
The IEC included lectures on “Understanding Rain-Induced Landslides and Flooding” by Geologist Rodrigo Jay B. Miralles; “Role of Women on Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation by Ms. Evalyn E. Barillo, CPA; and “Disaster Risk Management for All: The Inclusion of Youth, Senior Citizens , Persons with Disabilities” by Engr. Jolame P. Decena. Regional Director Carlos A. Tayag also imparted the essence of these lectures, that is, to equip each and every personnel of MGBRO8 the basic knowledge on disaster preparedness.
The next part of the event included a series of parlor games including a cheer dance competition, relay games, quiz bee, “Kuratsa” dancing contest, and culminated with a tree planting on the second day.
The said two-day event was observed and celebrated while observing safety protocols, in addition to the fact that all employees who attended the same were fully vaccinated.
