The MGBRO8 recently concluded the field work on the declared mineral reservation: Samar Bauxite Mineral Reservation (SBMR) located in Samar Island covering the Municipalities of Paranas and Motiong, Samar. The fieldwork, which started last September 24, 2021 and culminated last October 15, 2021, involved the taking of samples for the determination of the grade quality of bauxite within the mineral reservation.

As culmination to the activity and to give updates on the initial results of the fieldwork, the MGBRO8 conducted an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) on November 16-19, 2021 in the Municipalities of Paranas, and Motiong, Samar.

It was presented, during the IEC, that there are bauxite deposits in the mineral reservation located in  Paranas, and Motiong, Samar, and that the samples were already sent to the MGB Central Office for the determination of the grade quality of the bauxite. The determination of the value of mineral deposits in the said reservation is for the possible mining exploration and development in the area.

The principal uses of bauxite are multipurpose covering metallurgy, chemical industries, as raw material in building and road aggregates. Bauxite is the best and only material for making aluminum metal. Bauxite is used in chemical industry, refractory brocks, abrasive, cement, steel, and petroleum.

The IEC was facilitated by the Geosciences Division through its OIC, Division Chief, Celestina Carranza.
