In the enforcement of its mandate to cull the illegal mining in Region 8, the MGBRO8 conducted inventory of Small-scale Mining Quarries and Sand and Gravel Permit/Sites in the Province of Northern, Samar from September 21-25, 2021.
There were thirteen (13) municipalities of the Province that were monitored by the technical personnel of this Office, to wit: the Municipalities of Lope de Vega; Catarman; Palapag; Mapanas; Gamay; Lapinig; Pambujan; San Jose; Lavezares; Victoria; San Isidro; Allen; and Bobon.
The technical personnel monitored the permit areas/sites of permit holders in the Province and inspected areas of alleged extraction without the appropriate mining permit issued by the appropriate government agency.
The purpose of the inventory is to determine whether the permit holders are complying with the terms and conditions embedded in their mining permits, otherwise, the MGBRO8 will issue the corresponding recommendatory actions to the issuing authority of the permit, that is the Province of Northern Samar.
For violations committed by the permit holders of MGBRO8, a show cause order will be used to the violators as to why no sanctions will imposed. Though, there are no mining permits issued by this Office in the Province of Northern Samar.
For areas identified with mining excavations/operations not supported with a valid permit, a cease and desist order will be issued in addition to the show cause order. The continued illegal mining despite the cease and desist order will warrant the filing of appropriate criminal case against the perpetrators.
The technical personnel, who conducted the said inventory, composed of Engr. Romely Rimban; Engr. Juriel Mabato; and Benjamin Sańo, Jr.
