The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. VIII emphasized the role of deputized personnel from concerned local government units during its Deputation Orientation Seminar in Alang-alang, Leyte on March 12, 2021.
The said seminar was intended to capacitate certain LGU personnel to police mining activities and help the regional office in its efforts to curb illegal mining and promote responsible mining.
The deputation orientation seminar was attended by some LGU personnel and PNP officers. They will be deputized as Mining Enforcement Officers and will be authorized to investigate violations of mining laws, rules and regulations and any of the criminal offenses defined in RA 7942 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations within the respective area of jurisdiction in Alang-alang, Leyte.
The Mining Enforcement Officers will also be authorized to apprehend/seize the tools, equipment and conveyances used in the commission of the offense(s) including all minerals/mineral products illegally extracted/hauled and possessed by the offender(s) in the process of committing the offenses and, if warranted, file criminal complaint with the Office of the Prosecutor.
