Orientation seminar to small-scale miners in Brgy. Waso, Llorente Eastern Samar
The Mines and Geosciences Bureau RO8 conducted an orientation seminar regarding the salient points of Republic Act No. 7076, also known as the People’s Small-Scale Mining Act of 1991, and the Safety and Health, Environmental and Social Development components of small scale mining to a group of small-scale miners in Barangay Waso, Llorente, Eastern Samar.
The orientation seminar was attended by the barangay officials of Brgy. Waso, Llorente, Eastern Samar and the miners of Strong-K Waso Miners Association that has an existing Small-Scale Mining Contract until April 3, 2021. It was held at Brgy. Waso, Llorente, Eastern Samar on November 19-20, 2020.
The Province of Eastern Samar implemented the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) on March 22, 2020, to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the province. Thus, the small-scale mining operations in Llorente, Eastern Samar stopped due to the said ECQ declaration.
During the open forum, the association raised queries and concerns on the proposed livelihood support for the women of the association to help the community earn an additional income and establish an economic foundation for the community where they can support themselves. The proposed activities of the association were Agrivet Store/ Sari-sari Store and Hog Raising.
