Hon. Vice Mayor Leo Carmelo Locsin, Jr. expressed appreciation to MGB-08 for sharing valuable insights on the programs and projects it is currently undertaking through a dialogue conducted at the SP Session Room in Ormoc City on July 24, 2020.

In the said dialogue, Regional Director Leo Van Juguan presented to the SP-Ormoc City the programs and projects of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau in an effort to harmonize policies aimed at promoting geological studies, responsible mining and environmental protection.

Vice Mayor Locsin expressed interest on the idea of establishing bamboo plantation as he has seen how bamboos are being used for housing, tourism and construction industries and that, accordingly, it is more practical growing them since they grow faster.

SP-Ormoc City also shared that they are in continued pursuit in the amendment of their City Mining Ordinance which dates back to year 1994. In the presentation of RD Juguan which gave recommendations to further strengthen the environmental measures for permits issued by LGU-Ormoc City, Hon. Marcos stressed that they do consider adopting such measures especially on setting limits on the weight of transport of dump trucks. She admitted however, that they need guidance on how to put it all together in their city mining ordinance. RD Juguan committed to provide them inputs particularly on the putting up of Rehabilitation Cash Fund, Monitoring Trust Fund and other pertinent documents that could be of help to them.

The Dialogue was attended by City Vice Mayor Leo Carmelo Locsin, Jr., Chairperson on Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Lalaine Marcos and other staff including the LGU’s Legal Officer.
