The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 8 represented by RD Leo Van Juguan appeared for a dialogue with the Sangguniang Panlalawigan-Leyte represented by Vice-Governor Carlo P. Loreto on July 9, 2020, to discuss recent programs being undertaken by the agency which involves the participation of the concerned local government units.

RD Juguan discussed two (2) salient topics, to wit: Dredging of rivers and priority mining projects, both of which are part of the government’s efforts toward economic recovery having been adversely affected by Covid-19.

In the dredging of rivers, RD Juguan explained that the activity is pursuant to the DENR Administrative Order No. 2020-07 dated February 27, 2020 which was based on the DENR-DPWH-DILG-DOTR Joint Memorandum Circular No. 01 Series of 2019 which seeks to protect and properly manage the disposition of sand as well as restore the natural state and water flow of the heavily-silted river channels in the country.

For Leyte, the estimated revenue at 4% USD for the 11 identified rivers to be dredged is projected at 5,029,565.61.

Meanwhile, the priority mining projects in the province are expected to operate within the next six (6) months upon complete submission of requirements by the concerned companies to the Office.

Vice Governor Loreto for his part, expressed that SP-Leyte is supportive of such programs and projects by the government with the end-in-view of benefitting the people at large.
