TWG to address SAG extractions convene

The Technical Working Group (TWG) created by the Regional Development Council (RDC)-Regional Project Monitoring Committee (RPMC) which was intended to address the issue on Sand and Gravel Extractions (SAG) in Albuera, Leyte and Ormoc City convened in a meeting at the Mines and Geosciences Bureau RO-VIII on February 4, 2020.

The TWG was created primarily to comprehensively study the issue on the SAG extractions in the said areas and to recommend courses of actions on how to resolve the critical issue.

In the said meeting, a presentation of the study results on the impact of SAG Operations in the communities and Landscapes in Leyte Island was presented by Dr. Maria Aurora Teresita Tabada of Visayas State University.

The meeting was attended by member-agencies such as the NIA, DA, BFAR, EMB, VSU, DENR, DAR and PSR for Agriculture and Fishery Sector as well as concerned LGUs, Province of Leyte, LGU-Albuera and LGU-Ormoc.

The meeting ended with the crafting of an action plan by the TWG on how to address the issue on SAG extractions in Albuera, Leyte and Ormco City.
