The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 8 participated in the culmination activities marking the 50th Anniversary of the ASEAN on August 8, 2017.
MGB-8 joined the municipality of Palo, Leyte, which was chosen as one of 10 municipalities in the Visayas and Mindanao and among the 50 cities/municipalities around the country for the simultaneous lantern lighting, one of the ceremonies marking the 50th ASEAN anniversary.
Prior to the lantern lighting at 7:00 P.M., a “Walk for Peace” was facilitated at 4:00 P.M. from the town plaza up to the Leyte Landing Memorial Park in Candahug, Palo, Leyte.
Meanwhile, the Landmark Lighting with the lantern, symbolic of the emblems of the ASEAN was held simultaneously with Member States participating in the occasion, and 74 local government units across the country. The event is a symbolic gesture that expresses the theme of the ASEAN 50 festivities, “Under one Light, We are one ASEAN.” In Palo, Leyte, the activities were actively participated by government officials, employees, teachers, students and some concerned citizens.
The events organized sought to inform the public about the benefits of the harmonious relationship of member countries in the ASEAN region with the Philippines as host in this year’s ASEAN summit.
