MGB-8 spearheads geohazard assessments in quake-affected areas in Ormoc City

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 8, in coordination with the various mining companies from different regions, has extended its hand to the LGU-Ormoc City in the conduct of geohazard assessments in the quake-affected areas following the M6.5 earthquake that hit the City on July 6, 2017

MGB-8 has immediately pooled in a team of geologists who will facilitate the geohazard assessments particularly in the identified barangays which sustained damages, to wit: Barangays Tongonan, Cabaon-an, Danao, Cabintan and Milagro. The team has coordinated and presented to LGU-Ormoc City the current situation of the affected areas, proposed possible solutions that can be done and assured them of the technical support that they could provide in the conduct of hydrological studies as requested by Mayor Richard Gomez and Cong. Lucy Torres-Gomez. Oceana Gold Mining Corp. has sent in hydrogeologist and geotechnical experts who likewise led the team in all the assessment activities within the City of Ormoc.

The team was composed of geologists from MGB-8, EMB-8 and mining companies which include Oceana Gold Mining Corporation (Nueva Vizcaya) and Apex Mining Corporation (Davao)..
