In response to the letter request of Hon. Jose Carlos L. Cari, City Mayor of Baybay, Leyte, to deputize certain LGU personnel in Baybay, Leyte, the technical personnel from MGBRO8 conducted a deputation seminar on June 9, 2022.
Thirty-seven (37) LGU personnel and Barangay Officials were deputized as Deputized Mining Enforcement Officers. The deputized personnel as Mining Enforcement Officers of MGBRO8 are authorized to conduct apprehension/seizure of perpetrators of illegal mining and the illegal transport of minerals and mineral products within the City of Baybay, Leyte.
Pursuant to Section 9 of RA 7942 or the Philippine Mining Act of 1995 and Section 7 (f) of DAO 2010-21 or the Implementing Rules and Regulations of RA 7942, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office VIII conduct a series of Deputation Orientation Seminar to capacitate different government officials and employees to police mining activities.
The technical personnel from MGBR08 discussed, among others, the salient features of RA 7942 and its implementing rules and regulations (IRR), basic mining concepts, areas open and close to mining applications, permits issued by the National and Provincial Government, Ore Transport Permit/Delivery Receipt, composition and functions of the Provincial Mining Regulatory Board (PMRB), benefits of mining, quarry fees and taxes paid by permit holders, and the apprehension/seizure procedures for illegally extracted and/or transported mineral products as provided under RA 7942 and its IRR.
