In a coordination meeting for the construction of temporary shelters for Abuyog, Leyte and Baybay, City facilitated by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Eastern Visayas on April 20, 2022 in Baybay, City, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No.08 provided significant inputs on the planning and preparation stages for the construction of temporary shelters.
MGB-08 has been on the active lead in the assessment of landslide affected areas in both Abuyog, Leyte and Baybay, City, resulting from Tropical Cyclone Agaton. MGB-08, through its team of geologists, has strongly recommended compliance to the Hazard Zone Classifications and Recommended Actions per Joint DENR-DILG-DND-DPWH-DOST Memorandum Circular No. 2014-01. In the said Joint Memorandum Circular, areas classified as having very high landslide susceptibility are not safe for human settlement and residents within those areas must be immediately relocated.
The coordination meeting was attended by Hon. Jose Carlos Cari, Abuyog, Leyte Municipal Administrator and officials from OCD-08, DILG-08, DSWD-08, DPWH-08, MGB-08 and the Philippine Army.
