The Mines and Geosciences ureau Regional Office No. VIII (MGB RO8) attended the Consultative meeting on the Subang Daku River Restoration Project (Dredging Project) initiated by the Environmental Management Bureau RO VIII on February 17., 2022 at Brgy. San Isidro, Sogod, Southern, Leyte.
In the said meeting, Engr. Armando S. Dupio of EMB-08, discussed among others, the proposed dredging activity in the area. He also discussed the vast SAG material replenishment of the Subang Daku River due to the occurrence of a fault line at the extreme upstream of the said river. He further informed the necessity to have rechanneling/dredging project along the Subang Daku River to address problems such as flooding and to protect and manage the said river.
The importance of the creation of the Programmatic Environmental Impact Assessment (PEIA) in order to make the dredging activity successful was likewise emphasized. Accordingly, if the dredging project fails, possible damage or bridge failure will likely occur. It was also clarified that the basis of Subang Daku River restoration thru the PEIA study is the Master Dredging Plan crafted by the DPWH.
The meeting was participated by about 28 volunteer residents of Brgy. San Isidro, Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU), LGU-Sogod, representatives from DPWH Maasin City, and NIA-Maasin City together with MGB-08 and EMB-08.
