On July 29, 2021, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Regional Office VII was invited by the Sangguniang Bayan of Albuera, Leyte to attend the public hearing of the draft of the Municipal Ordinance No. 2015-05, otherwise known as “An Ordinance Providing for Rules and Regulations of the Installation of Monitoring Structures/Devices at Strategic Locations along Rivers, Creeks, or Similar Bodies of Inland Waters and Reference Point of the Acceptable/Ideal Level of Riverbeds and Providing Penalties for Violations Thereof.”
Engr. Wendell S. Gador and Atty. Rogelio Napoles, Jr., of MGBROVIII served as resource speakers in the said public hearing which was attended by the members of Sangguniang Bayan of Albuera, Leyte and representatives from the different stakeholders concerned.
The objective of the Ordinance is to regulate the sand and gravel extraction and to determine the desired level of riverbed to ensure adequate water supply to our farmlands and to protect and secure the lives and properties of our local constituents near rivers and creeks.
Prior to the Municipal Ordinance No. 2015-05, the Municipality of Albuera previously passed an Ordinance deterring illegal sand and gravel extraction and illegal transport of minerals within the territorial jurisdiction of Albuera, Leyte.
