In response to the Memorandum dated January 18, 2021, issued by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) of Eastern Visayas, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 8 attended the Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) Meeting in connection with the Low Pressure Area and the Tail-End of a Frontal System affecting the region. The said meeting was held virtually via Zoom at 10:00 AM on January 19, 2021. MGB-08 was represented by Celestina U. Carranza (OIC, Geosciences Division) and Rodrigo Jay B. Miralles (Senior Geologist, in-charge of the Geohazards Operation Center).
During the said meeting, Rodrigo Jay B. Miralles presented the list of provinces, cities, municipalities and barangays in the region with areas possibly affected by the said weather disturbance. A total of 1,612 barangays in the region have been identified as having areas which may possibly be affected by rain-induced landslides and floods. This is in reference to the list sent by the MGB Central Office PDRA, based on the available rainfall data from the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) as 8:00 PM of January 18, 2021. The said list serves as an attachment to the Advisory issued by MGB 8 regarding the said weather disturbance. Apart from an enumeration of the provinces, cities, municipalities and barangays, the tabulated list also contains the corresponding landslide and flood ratings for the said areas.
Aside from MGB-08, other agencies, offices and local government units also presented their preparedness measures and actions regarding the said weather disturbance.
