With the issuance of a Proclamation No. 929 “Declaring a State of Calamity Throughout the Philippines Due to Corona Virus Disease 2019” and pursuant to Republic Act No. 11469 or the “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act”, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), in Memoranda dated March 27, 2020 and April 1, 2020, authorized the MGB Regional Offices to allow the mining companies to re-align the unutilized funds of the Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) to assist the host and neighbouring communities, as well as the non-impact barangays in their respective localities, during the implementation of enhanced community quarantine until the threat of COVID-19 is gone.

With the abovementioned Memorandum of the MGB, some of the Mining Contractors and Industrial Sand and Gravel Permit Holders within Region VIII extended their assistance to their host and neighbouring communities by giving food packs (i.e. rice, pack lunch, etc.) and medical supplies/kits.
