City Mayor Richard Gomez and local officials, DENR Regional Director Leonardo Sibbaluca, MGB-Regional Director Raul Laput and EMB Regional Director Letecia Maceda and participants during the LGU Ormoc -initiated the Stakeholder Consultation/Dialogue held last October 4, 2016 at the Ormoc City, Multi-Purpose Hall.
The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 8 participated in the Dialogue called for by the City Government of Ormoc, spearheaded by Mayor Richard Gomez in a bid to address the concerns of various stakeholders pertaining to the environment and sand and gravel operations and related concerns in the city, on October 4, 2016 at the Ormoc City Hall.
The City Mayor considered the dialogue the right venue for stakeholders to ask and clarify concerns on SAG extractions, illegal logging, water sanitation, among others, with the concerned agencies which are the DENR, EMB and MGB Regional Offices, all of which were unanimously present. He emphasized that the basic thrust of the City Government is to ensure that the environment is in good shape all the time and has therefore, encouraged business operators to operate the right way and in turn, do away with environmental degradation.
RD Laput on the other hand, guaranteed that MGB-8 shall actively fulfil its mandate to pursue responsible mining under the tenets of environmental protection, social acceptability and sustainable development.
